Pharmaceutical Chemistry Faculty

Howard University College of Pharmacy, located in Washington, DC, is seeking a dedicated and highly motivated Assistant or Associate Professor in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Full-time faculty members will have responsibilities which include teaching, research and other scholarly activities.

Position Description: A 12-month, tenure track faculty position, at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor.

Candidate Requirements:

Acceptable academic qualifications for this position include an earned terminal degree: a Ph.D. (or equivalent) is preferred. Candidates with a pharmacy background, postdoctoral training and evidence of success in innovative, extramurally funded research programs are preferred.  Faculty rank, within the tenure-track, will be determined at the time of appointment. The successful candidate will report to the Chair of the Pharmaceutical Sciences Department.

The primary teaching requirement for this position is to provide instruction to Pharm. D. students in the Pharmaceutical Chemistry courses which include topics in medicinal chemistry, drug metabolism and natural products.

Candidates must possess a strong commitment to teaching, research and scholarship. Candidates will be expected to:

• Teach in the Pharm. D. program, as assigned by the chair
• Develop an elective course
• Teach in the Ph.D. program
• Implement active learning strategies and best practices in teaching, utilizing Howard University’s Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Assessment (CETLA) and other resources 
• The successful applicant is expected to establish a rigorous, extramurally funded research program, to produce scholarly works in their area of research and/or the scholarship of teaching, and to involve students in research and publications
• Serve as advisor to graduate students and supervise their research
• All faculty are expected to provide service to the department, college, university and the community
• Faculty are also expected to participate in accreditation activities, faculty development programs, and to assist the Admissions Office with student recruitment, when required
• Establish a research program in the candidate’s area of expertise
• Advise assigned students
• Work on college standing committees as assigned by the dean in consultation with the chair
• Work on department ad hoc committees, as assigned by the department chair
• Work on other ad hoc committees, as recommended by the chair
• Attend seminars, workshops and webinars, when practical, for continued personal growth
• Display good interpersonal communication skills in interactions with students, staff and faculty
• Work cooperatively and collaboratively with others in a team environment
• Build strong, interactive professional relationships within the college, the university and the profession
• Respond to emails and other communications timeously and provide information required for the Annual Report, and other purposes, expeditiously
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair
