The Texas A&M Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy is inviting applications and nominations for the position of Department Head of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The position will be hired at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor.
The college and this dynamic department of 24 faculty members are located on the campuses of Texas A&M University-Kingsville and Texas A&M University in College Station. The Texas A&M Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy is a member of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Technology and Education (NIPTE), and houses a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical product development core and AAALAC-accredited pharmaceutical research facilities. Texas A&M University is a top tier research institution and a designated land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant university.
The Department Head will be responsible for providing leadership, direction, mentorship, and administrative oversight to faculty and staff in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The successful candidate will be involved in engaging faculty teaching in an integrated curriculum and will be responsible for ensuring that department members create and sustain excellence in teaching, research, scholarship, and service. Additionally, s/he will help strengthen the college research enterprise, which includes areas of focus in drug discovery and delivery, therapeutics, medicinal chemistry, and the evaluation of medication use behaviors and patterns, medication safety, and the costs and consequences of pharmacy products and services for a wide array of acute and chronic medical conditions.
The Department Head reports directly to the Dean of the College of Pharmacy and is a member of the Executive Committee. This position requires strong leadership; efficient oversight of department operations; recruitment and retention of department teaching and research faculty; the ability to serve as an advocate for the department to the research community; and possessing a sophisticated knowledge of the issues confronting higher education and basic science research in a public institution.
