Lead the formulation development of proprietary and partnered new TDDS (Transdermal Drug Delivery System) products that will complement our current technology or be based upon new delivery technologies. In addition, the incumbent will lead and build a staff to advance the scientific disciplines to develop patient-centric pharmaceutical products with strong exclusivity protection via patents and other mechanisms.
Work with senior management across functional areas to identify technologies and product opportunities for development.
Determine the optimal drug delivery technologies that meet the therapeutic needs of a novel pharmaceutical product, and lead the effort to develop these products.
Design and apply rigorous scientific approaches to develop products based on Quality-by-Design and risk based product development thinking.
Lead the effort to accelerate the development and launch of proprietary and partnered products.
Identify and exploit opportunities that result from the development and launch of new and current delivery systems.
Identify and execute strategies to develop strong product and technology patents.
Lead and manage internal scientific teams in support of flux lab, formulation development, & novel technologies. Determine staff requirements which may be deployed from existing R&D departments or hired externally.
Work closely with other functional areas such as Analytical Research, Process Development, Quality, Manufacturing/Operations to ensure that a highly robust formulation is being progressed.
Ensure that the formulation ingredients meet the highest regulatory standards while being effective
Evaluate novel approaches and technologies to support development of differentiated, innovative products
Demonstrated ability to execute modern drug development processes based on Quality-by-Design thinking and risk-based development approaches is required as is hands-on experience in managing the development of novel drug delivery systems. Experience in the domain of transdermal drug delivery is highly preferred. In addition to scientific abilities, must possess proven team building, managerial and leadership skills, have an understanding of business and be able to envision commercial applications of development projects. Must possess creativity and openness to new ideas.
Education / Experience:
Advanced degree, PhD preferred in pharmaceutical sciences, life sciences, basic sciences, or engineering. A minimum of 10 years of progressively successful research and management experience, beginning at the bench and rising to Associate Director/Director level is required
