The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) seeks a Department Chair of strategic and visionary leadership to advance the teaching, research, and service/outreach activities of the Department. Pharmaceutical Sciences is one of two departments in the College of Pharmacy, which is one of three Colleges constituting the University. Reporting to the Dean of the College, the Chair will have a dynamic opportunity to help shape the Department and further refine its identity, serving as the primary voice at College, University, and community levels.
Established by the Ohio state legislature in 1973, the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) is a community-based, public university that partners with other colleges and universities; health care providers, pharmacies and research companies; and business, civic and public leaders to help bring wellness and access to health care to the medically underserved in Ohio and throughout the nation. NEOMED is located a beautiful, rural community that is about a 30-minute drive from Akron and Youngstown and less than an hour from Cleveland, western Pennsylvania and the rolling hills of Ohio Amish country.
The College of Pharmacy, founded in 2005, offers the only four-year Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D.) and six-year Pharm.D/Ph.D. programs in eastern Ohio. The College is dedicated to interprofessional healthcare education and research - pharmacy and medicine students learning together. It graduates pharmacy professionals who proactively integrate into the healthcare team to collaboratively advance and deliver optimal patient care. The College also provides pharmacy residency education and teaching certificate programs.
In this important role, the Chair will be an experienced leader who balances the administrative and managerial tasks of the position while reinforcing a sense of common purpose, a shared and compelling vision, a collaborative and cohesive academic community, and an emerging identity for the Department. The Chair will work with the faculty and staff to continue to grow extramural funding within the context of the College of Pharmacy, and create stronger connections to its external partner organizations and universities. The Chair will also promote a robust research agenda among departmental faculty.
The Chair will provide leadership and vision to the Department, and contribute to the development of its identity. The Chair will foster a Department that values diversity and inclusion, and strives to be a caring community, and a cohesive, collaborative environment. As an experienced teacher and scholar, the Chair will mentor junior faculty and work to ensure faculty development, recruitment, retention, and evaluation, while developing and maintaining a robust research agenda within the Department. The Chair will also act as an ambassador for the Department, seeking ways to integrate it into the College, University, and beyond.
