You will focus on applying machine learning techniques to biology, especially in image analysis and interpretation. For example, you will use ML and other algorithms on pathology images of tumor samples to look for new markers of drug response/resistance and to understand the tumor microenvironment. These analyses will cover different levels of the data, from raw images to interpretation of higher level features.
We’re looking for candidates with a strong background designing and applying algorithms to solve problems in high-throughput biology and drug discovery, in either academic or industry settings. You should have experience in all aspects of computational projects- data management and processing pipelines, algorithms, interpretation with biologists, and presentation/publication.
Our Bioinformatics group supports the Immunology and Immuno-Oncology departments from target discovery through clinical biomarker analysis. We’re part of Global Early Development, a multi-disciplinary department that also includes Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical Biomarkers and Companion Diagnostics, Drug Disposition, and Modeling & Simulation. You will have the opportunity to expand your drug development skills by collaborating with and learning from experts across all of these areas.
Who you are:
A PhD in a relevant field (computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics), MS degree with 3-5+ years’ experience or a BS degree with 8+ years’ of experience.
Demonstrated expertise image analysis and data interpretation techniques
Strong programming (at least R and python; other languages a plus), database, and software engineering skills for building computational infrastructure rather than a series of one-off analyses
An understanding of how to apply algorithms to new problems as demonstrated by experience with a variety of computational biology techniques, software packages, and algorithms, especially for large ‘omics datasets (genomics, expression data, proteomics, phenotypic screens, and perhaps metabolomics)
A strong publication record illustrating their above experiences
Experience with genomics or biology datatypes beyond imaging (strongly preferred)
